Genesis 202
Lesson Two
Genesis 1:20-23

In verse twenty, we come to the works of God on day five.

Gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

In this verse we see God creating all the water animals and fowls of the air.

Gen 1:21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Notice that God says "after their kind"... There is no evolution going on here. Each animal brought forth offspring, "after their kind". In other words, a bird brought forth a bird, a fish brought forth a fish and so on. As we have previously mentioned, we don't know when "in the beginning" was, but in regards to this creation that we live in, the Bible is very clear that God did it about seven thousand years ago, that He did it in six literal days, and that He created all living things, and they in turn, reproduced "after their kind".

Gen 1:22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

In verse 22 God gives His sea and air creatures one command, "Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters..."

Gen 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
And then once again, God reminds us that this "day" was a 24 hour period of time.
